Master classes for practicing fixers
On February 29, 2024, the second master class was held as part of the online course "Practical fixing. We help the world learn the truth about Ukraine."
Students of the specialty 061 Journalism together with Andrii Solomakhin, associate professor of the department of Ukrainian and Slavic philology and journalism, attended the second meeting on the topic "Intercultural differences: why they are important."
Orest Semotyuk - the speaker of the event, spoke about the nuances of the fixer's work with foreign partners, answering the following questions in detail:
- whether Ukrainians and foreigners perceive the world in the same way, and how this can hinder the coverage of the topic of war;
- how the national characteristics of foreign journalists affect the organization of the team's work;
- communication and negotiations with media editors of different countries;
- how to get along with fixers and foreign journalists despite the difference in culture and outlook.
As a reminder, the project started on January 30 and consists of 4 master classes aimed at practicing fixers and novice fixers, journalists, editors, translators, and students.
The coach of the meetings is Orest Semotyuk. Fixer since 2017, worked for DIE ZEIT, SPIEGEL, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (Germany), Volkskraant (Netherlands), Weltwoche, Neue Zürcher Zeitung (Switzerland), Al Jazzeera, Il Foglio (Italy) and others. In search of new talents
Students and teachers of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism of the Kherson State University held a career orientation meeting with the graduates of the Kherson Vocational College of Culture and Arts. Andriy Solomakhin, the guarantor of the "Journalism" educational program, told the participants about the faculty's capabilities and opportunities. The meeting with potential entrants of the KhSU began with an infographic. Andriy Fedorovych also shared the stories of graduates who are now successfully working in various fields related to their specialty. "Among our graduates is the famous poet Anatoliy Kychynskyi; scientists Yuriy Hayduchenko, Iryna Shaposhnikova, Volodymyr Kupriy. Many of our journalist graduates are currently working by profession and are building a successful career in the Ukrainian media," emphasized Andriy Solomakhin.
Being a teacher is a calling of the soul and heart. The educational program "Secondary education (Ukrainian language and literature)" gives future graduates the opportunity not only to master the profession of an educator, but also to become an expert in Ukrainian literature and language, popularize it and teach others. After all, in the current conditions, we have all understood that language is our weapon.
"Teacher's profession is eternal. After all, popular specialties sometimes cease to be such, and a person studies all his life", Svitlana Martos, guarantor of the educational program "Philology (Ukrainian language and literature)", addressed the applicants.
What is it like to be a student of Kherson State University. Students of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism Oleksandr Sypko, Valentina Pestushko and Anastasia Kytsia shared their impressions and emotions. In particular, they talked about the opportunities that the university provided them during their years of study, shared their impressions of trips to various trainings, participation in all-Ukrainian hackathons, competitions, etc. Some of the students already use their skills in practice, so I had the opportunity to talk in more detail about the specifics of the profession and answer the applicants' questions.

How not to act on fakes?
Valentyna Pestushko (Fedorchuk), a 2nd-year student of Kherson State University majoring in Journalism 061, conducted a fact-checking training for Kherson residents at the SVOE educational training center.
The author's program included theoretical and practical parts.
During two hours, together with the participants, they learned:
- what to pay attention to before trusting the news and spreading it;
- how to distinguish a deepfake from a real video;
- what are "patriotic" fakes and why are they dangerous;
- how to determine from which country the administrators of the Facebook group are from, and which sources can be trusted. The acquired skills were applied to practical cases. Also, together with older participants, they set up messengers in order to protect their accounts from fraudsters
Today, the enemy is waging a large-scale information war, in which our weapon is media literacy!

We join international cooperation
As part of the international cooperation project supported by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, a delegation of 6 Ukrainian journalists visited Croatia. It included Valentina Pestushko (Fedorchuk), a student of Kherson State University majoring in 061 Journalism. During the week, Ukrainian media representatives discussed the challenges faced by them, work in war conditions. A number of meetings were also held with diplomats, Croatian students, professors from the USA, and the president of the European Federation of Journalists, Maja Sever. During the trip, our student had the opportunity to communicate with Ukrainians and Khersons who were forced to move to Croatia due to Russian armed aggression.

We are 106 - from the past to the future
Kherson State University is one of the most prestigious
of higher educational institutions of Ukraine, which was founded in 1917 and
is included in the ranking of the fifty best higher educational institutions
of Ukraine. Over the years of its existence, KhSU has educated more than 100,000 specialists
various fields of knowledge, including outstanding scientists, writers, politicians,
athletes and public figures. This year, the university celebrated
its 106th anniversary.
Unfortunately, because of the war, the community of the institution met at a solemn event
to the academic council of the university at various sites: in the offices of KhSU in Ivano-Frankivsk
Frankivsk and Kherson and online. At the event, a close crowd gathered
500 participants - students, teachers, as well as partners of the university and
officials.
The festival was solemnly opened by the rector of the university Oleksandr
Spivakovsky, who told about the establishment of the institution, about how
an ordinary institute was able to become the multidisciplinary university that we are
see him today.
Among them, officials of various levels joined in the greetings
Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Culture, head of Khersonska
Oleksandr Prokudin and deputy head of the regional military administration

Meeting of the student science club "Media education" on the occasion of the Days of Science at KSU
On May 11, an interactive webinar "How to win in the information space" was held, conducted by Natalya Viktorivna Bazilevich. Anastasia Borshchyk, Valeria Fedyushkina, and Melania Fedoruk were also involved in the organization of the event.
All those present listened and discussed the following questions: theories of influence, information habits, why it is worth checking the pages of foreign media, three types of incorrect information, how protected our messengers are.
Guest Ivan Antipenko was invited to the event - a freelance journalist from Kherson, a graduate of KhSU. Listeners had the opportunity to learn his story about how he began to cover the consequences of the war, as well as ask questions of interest.

Integrative weekly schools at the University Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań
On March 20, 2023, the fifth week-long International Winter School "International Polonistic Studies", organized by the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań as part of the NAWA project "Solidarity with Ukraine - European Universities" began its work in the Dembina palace complex. Students, graduate students and teachers from five partner universities from Ukraine took part in the one-week school. During the winter school, the participants not only worked fruitfully with Polish teachers, but also had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the cultural heritage of Poznań and visit the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

(bachelor) level of higher education have successfully completed the online training: "Home
of fakes: disassemble the dezu into bricks", which took place on February 27-28, 2023 at
Zoom site. Trainers and experts were Oleksandr Horohovskyi,
media trainer, head of the BezBrehni fact-check project; and Serhiy Sturkhetskyi,
